Your 3DS should not swap between NANDs just by going to the system menu - it should only go to system NAND on power cycle.

Yes, it should, it has always been like that. Exiting System Settings reboots the console (not in the same manner as turning it off and on again, but still), in consequence, Gateway mode disappears.

does this mean if you bought a 4.5 3ds, you could get this, emuNAND to 6.3, then system transfer stuff from your other system, then revert back to 4.5 with all your games/saves etc. transfered? If so, I am getting a Gateway :D

ATM you cannot transfer games etc from a 3DS to an other.

No. For this, you need a hardware mod to back up and flash the actual NAND of the system.

So provided I am handy with a soldering iron, I could get a 4.5 XL, back up nand, update, do system transfer, and restore?

Wait, that would probably wipe my ownership of the transferred games. whoops. Well, it was worth a shot :P

Indeed. Someone said that, if you enter to the eShop on a system with expired activation tickets of apps and games still stored on the NAND, the eShop deletes them without mercy.

Anyone else get this error when trying to update emunand?

An Error Occurred. Unable to Update

I tried to update using two different access points, but I still get that error.

I managed to get the update working by formatting my 3DS.

Posted this in case someone else was having this error.

I made a backup of my NAND. I formatted the SD card. I was in GW3DS 4.50. I updated using the system. Now I'm in 6.3.0-12E. And it's my system NAND. How did this happen?! I double checked and I was sure I was in GW3DS 4.50. How do I restore my NAND?

I'm sorry to read that!
The only solution for you now is this: http://gbatemp.net/threads/nand-flash-dump-3ds-xl.350668/

I did it on my XL in 1 hour. Easy and straight forward.

Good luck!

Successfully updated my emuNAND feelsgoodman.jpeg
However I won't be inserting my Pokemon X cart, not worth losing my save file with 315 hours. might however transfer all my perfect competitive pokemon to an empty box on a friends 3ds and start a new game.

You can actually switch like that with hardware as i used to do it. on the 4.4/4.5 nand your stuff wont show or work. if you backup 6.3 Nand with hardware each time your purchase something so that the ticket data is updated in NAND backup. 4.4 for gateway and hardware flash to 6.3 for purchased eshop stuff. I will be doing that currently until emunand works with system transfers

Some infos:

The NAND and console IDs are stored in the encrypted NAND. A NAND image does only work on the 3DS, on that it was made. Each 3DS uses his own keys for NAND en-/decryption. So no NAND sharing. Only up- and dowgrading currently.

But be aware. The 3DS deletes all contents on the SD card with missing tickets in the NAND. Downloading a new game on the latest firmware and dowgrading results in the 3DS deletes it!
Looks like nintendo patched physical nand swapping through hardware flashing

Repeat after me:

Exiting system settings will take you to real nand, regardless of whether you were in emunand or not.

Wish they would let us play the NCAA football 14 on newer xbox, its one of the only games I love and own on disc still, that is not back compatible, bs.

@BigOnYa My dad recently bought a spare Series X off of me, got game pass, and saw Madden '24 on Game Pass, decided to try it out.

@K3Nv2 He was looking into consoles for his house anyway (for my younger siblings and himself) and I had a spare XSX and Switch I ended up selling him at pretty steep cuts. I would just give them to him, but I did buy them with the intent to sell them... and college is super expensive.
