The other thing is, as you age your brain degrades so

I'm sure we've all read something from an author we liked that he wrote way past his prime and thought, is it even the same man?
There's even a conspiracy theory that's been going on for the last 20 years that Jim Davis quit writing a long time ago and now he has ghostwriters.

It's not a secret that Davis doesn't draw the comic himself any more (for quite some time now), there's a team of people that draw it, so it's not so far fetched to believe he doesn't write it by himself either.

Is it not a secret? Everyone says this, but I can't find a single source backing it up. Everything I've read indicates Jim still does everything himself. He has assistants and a team, but it's not like he's just a producer. He still does the lineart and writing from what I can tell.

The bigger question is why he hasn't just let the strip go into syndication and focus on the merchandise, like with Peanuts. There's practically no reason to keep pumping out new strips, especially when it just gets worse and worse.

Off the top of my head (and my phone):

I'll do a deeper dive once I get to my computer.
