GameStop has said today that it will soon launch an Android-
based gaming tablet that will come with titles pre-installed.

President Tony Bartel says the device is already created and will be part of the new "GameStop certified gaming platform" and will launch in 2012.

Notes Bartel (via GI):

"I don't see any need to create a new one with the three hundred or so on the market already. We have a refurbishment centre and we can bring in the product and preload certain games onto it. It's an Android device.

We definitely have selected one. We're in test phase right now. But we're excited at the prospect of coming out with this tablet. I would call it a 'GameStop certified gaming platform.' We looked at all the tablets and these are the ones that really worked for gaming and we're going to give you a few benefits that you're not going to get elsewhere."

Those tests began two weeks ago, says Bartel.

GameStop will stream console games (like Modern Warfare 3) to the device and the tablet will ship with a dedicated controller. [/p]

great Gigabytes Batman, androids and apples, oh what's next!?

Watch this thing get rooted on the spot. Wonder how much it'll cost. I'm less concern about it being by Gamestop, more concerned about it's specs, how well it runs, build quality, and how easy it is to root~

Next thing you know, they'll start selling non-gaming devices

Oh wait...

kinda old news i heard about this liek lastyear i think, they were talking about releaseing a gamestop tablet late 2011-mid 2012. guess there finally testing it.

Sorry GameStop but OnLive already beat you to the punch. Your tablet comes out in 2012. OnLive's viewing app is ALREADY out and their player app will be here before the end of the month. *Street Fighter 2 style* YOU LOSE!

Really?
I just have one question for GameStop..

Why?

Seriously, why do they need to make a GameStop brand android tablet?

The ONLY Way I can see this tablet being worth buying is if they had buttons and analog sliders on it. Otherwise, that tablet can go to hell. OK maybe I'm a bit harsh but seriously, it's not worth having without actual gaming buttons. It's the same reason why I'll be more likely to play OnLive from a phone than a tablet. I don't want to have to carry an extra controller around. Finally, why the hell aren't there any Experia Play knockoffs??? You're telling me nobody else thought to make an Android phone with slide out gamepad. Hell, at least make a Bluetooth slide out gamepad case. I'd pay for that!

Pretty sure theres already one. I can't remember the name but it's a case and works on android and iOS.

There's this...

Everything on this pad is mostly right except the placement of A, B, X and Y and apparently the price is a bit hefty.

then this...

Button placement is OK but no all of the shoulder buttons are on the face

and even worse, NO analog sticks. I do however like the colored buttons.

and lastly this...

Seems to be made only for the LG Versa BUT everything is nice and simple. Once again the lack of analog support sucks.

Sony and Nintendo need to start working with OnLive or do something similar as a option of gaming.

Don't really care for tablets. Even if Nintendo made it, I wouldn't care...

I LOVE tablets but if Nintendo went completely to streaming games that would be 100 % bad news for teh piratez (like me

). I would totally be cool with streaming games if games were no more than 19.99 max. It's the reason why I'm so cool with OnLive. I don't mind waiting it out to get a really good game between 4.99 and 9.99

Ohhhhh yes.

Hate on GameStop all you want, console games on my phone/tablet sounds great.
well, not yours, unless you buy one of theirs. and from the looks of it, it sounds like the device is from another brand and not exactly Gamestop's. probably just officially recommended, and they'd sell it bundled with (their software and) pre-loaded games.

basically, with a dedicated controller, they're turning it into a console. which would be okay though, since you don't have to rely on touch controls so much anymore.
