Backup loading seems to mainly be from scene releases, usually the first revision of the gamecart

Here is a list of titles that need a download to be able to finish the game & other improvements.
  • Wolfenstein(BBB)(required full playthrough)
  • LA NOIRE(HR?) (required full playthrough)
  • South park(BBB) (required full playthrough / save corruption fix)
  • Lost Sphere(BBB)(required for English language)
  • Skyrim (BBB)(required for languages other than English)
  • Doom (BBB)(not required online play update /required for performance)
  • Minecraft (BBB)(required for new engine)
  • RIME (BBB)(Required for performance)
  • Rocket league (Required for performance) -likely ban if used
  • Xenoblade (Required for performance)
I have expanded the list to add performance related improvements.

Any others, most backups ask to update so
I've started a list from your recommendations
Please include which group with the title or P2P

Wolfenstein does not require an update to play. I can confirm that.... I haven't run into a game as of yet that requires one.

I think the doom update is only for online play. Which you aren't going to be doing with a backup anyway.

L.A. Noire, Southpark and Wolfenstein require a update for a full playtrough. Yes you can play them to a specific point, but then you need the Update.

Doom has also a huge Update for much better performance.

Skyrim requires a download for you language but can be played in English without update.

Minecraft requires a update for the new Eingine.

From another thread

This is the method I use to update games and I haven’t had any issues.

Just follow these Steps:

1) Select the game(s) you want to update from the sx os loader menu so it puts it on the main screen.

2) Power off the switch completely.

3) Make a decision by selecting either Sub-step A or Sub-step B.
  • A) Preferred Method: Eject the sd card if you would like update data to be installed onto the internal memory of the switch. This will save precious space on the sd card.
  • B) Alternate Method: Leave the sd card inserted if you would like update data to be installed onto the sd card. This will save space on the internal memory of the switch.
4) Boot into ofw.

5) Select the game you want to update and press + to update; Repeat as necessary.

6) Turn off the switch.

7) Insert the sd card if you removed it as indicated in Step 3 Sub-step A; Otherwise, continue to Step 8.

8) Boot into sx os and select the updated game from the loader menu so it mounts onto the main screen.

9) Launch the updated game from the main screen and enjoy!

Is it only online play? The complete game is in the release?
Lost Sphear, unless you fancy playing it in Japanese.
Brilliant thank you, I've added it to the list

I'm sure it has been asked a thousand times and I think it is obvious so...sorry for redundancy.
Can I update games while being on 4.1.0?

Idk if there is a dump released of it but iirc the wwe game for switch requires a download to play
Anymore info on the title? Does it not work or launch without a update? Could be a P2P release I've seen 1 so far (the rest are eshop)

I'm just going off my cousin grumbling that he needed a bigger sd card to play it, quick Google shows the cart needs a 24gb download to use

I'm assuming an eshop dump would probably have the whole game

Righty-o I'll leave it off the list for now,
It does seem like Nintendo bulk bought 16gb cards and any game over that size needs downloading, the cheap bastards...

I don't think South park requires any update to full playthrough. I've been playing it for more than 10 hours. If it's a about the famous save corruption bug on version 1.0, afaik it only happens if you do a certain sidequest

Ok I'll strike through for now, keep us updated :)
