Hardware GameCube extension cable not working with my Wii

I have a venom GameCube controller which I'm using with my Wii I recently bought a generic extension cable and it simply doesn't work the light does not come on on my venom.

now obviously I'm just complaining to the supplier and asking for a replacement but does anybody have any ideas of why this would happen?

Some extensions work with official gamecube. Have you tested with a oficial gamecube controller?

I would first try an official controller if you can.

If that works then I wonder if it's that the controller has higher requirements than the official controller e.g. power (especially if it has extra LEDs), which the cable is unable to provide e.g. too long.

In terms of the cable you have, the easiest test is to run a continuity test across the pins, using a pinout as a reference since 1 pin may be disconnected because it's unused.
