Honestly, I don't think the GameCube would even be capable of reading mini DVD-RW discs - like the PS1.
The Wii was fine when reading DVD RW discs, same with the GameCube with some laser tweaking; although, the overall speeds isn't all that great, and the drive makes a loud noise when it's trying its hardest to read the discs, so I strongly discourage them.

Makes me wonder if mini DVD-R DL discs would be able to be read, if libogc was tweaked., then 🤔

Can the drive physically support them? Even the earlier Wii units have issues with DL discs which only came about due to Smash Bros.
Probably not, now that you mention it.

If someone really wanted to, they could check in Ghidra or IDA, since the GameCube disc drive firmware has been dumped for a while.

I strongly suggest not to, unless you're familiar with reverse engineering firmware binaries. If a beginner who has no idea what they're hacking at, the process will take 100 times longer.

GameCube discs are 1.4GB in size so it is unlikely to read anything that is an 8.5GB dual-layer disc. Not only that, but the laser has a limited range as to how far it can reach the end of the disc without crashing.
