There's really no way of knowing, is there? Maybe somebody cracked it open and scraped off the PCBs, or something.

I was going to guess oxidation in the power switch, as can happen with the GBA.

Once, I had the misfortune of buying a non-working Game Boy. Sadly, it never turned on again. I tried everything, but nothing helped. Eventually, it was abandoned on a shelf… and it's still sitting there to this day.

I might buy a GameBoy Colour, it says that it doesn't turn on at all. No signs of life. If I was to get this, how do I fix it? Thanks
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Dude, if you own a multimeter follow that there's voltage throughout the board.
If there's voltage, then it's definitely the power switch.
Either dirty, or broken.
