Hacking Game updates vs. firmeware upate - what's the difference?

Hi,

I am on WiiU Firmware 4.0.2 right now and would like to stay on that version. However, some new games I bought (Zelda, Pikmin) are trying to install software updates on my WiiU, same as the nintendo eshop.

What are this updates? Can it happen that such a software update will upgrade my firmware?

1. Your System Menu is not firmware. It's software, just like a game.
2. If you are already on 4.0.2, then this will just be an IOS U update. You won't update your System Menu.

Thanks. I know that for know, as I have the latest Sytem Menu version. But how do I know in the future what these updates do?
