I think the ESRB ratings and MPAA ratings need to be combined into one standard rating system. its ridiculous that movies like Striptease can be sold in stores, but if a video game has a sex scene it gets an AO rating and is banned from most store shelves

Oy, you Aussies have more to bitch about than us as far as video game ratings goes.

True, true. We don't even have an R18+ game rating yet.

I think teens should be able to buy M-rated games with a parent's consent. We shouldn't need her ID for everything. Gamestop lets me buy the games I want, but that may be different elsewhere. What teen doesn't know about sex and crime? Anyone 14 and above knows exactly what they are. Unless they're hidden from the world or something.

It's not like movies such as Striptease are available right in front of you as soon as you walk in a video store, you gotta know where to search.

what's with all the references to striptease...it's not a porno!! It might have a couple nude scene but then there are tons of movies that have it.....if you notice it is rated "R" and not "NC17", I don't think there are any sex scenes in the movie at all! Believe me there are a lot of movies that would compare better to this but then again you can get unrated movies right in the front of a video store...it might not show nudity on the cover but it can contain more nudity and sex than something like striptease.

The thing is: a video is very passive. You watch something, violence and sex, and that's that. A game however, is interactive for the most part. You are the one shooting, You are the one talking to the babe to have sex with etc...

So I see the difference there.

But I do think it's fucked up, and all ratings should go down the drain. The only rating I think should exist is "Will a person of the age X be able to play this game"... My sister bought Zelda spirit tracks for my 7 year old niece... she doesn't understand anything what to do, and the rating says... is it 3 or 7? i dunno... but THAT is the rating I think is valid...

What parent cares enough that their child doesn't see certain aspects of games, but doesn't realize when $40-60 disappears from their possesion. If a kid buys a game, chances are the parent knows already.

We're referencing Striptease the most because it's the first thing that comes to mind in this topic, because of the original poster. I've personally never heard of the movie. XD
