Gaming game like R type

I am after a vertical or horizontal scroll game like R type

I would suggest Nanostray and Nanostay 2. Both decent shooters. Give them a go.

Not sure about any others, the DS is lacking in this department. If anyone else knows any, id like to hear aswell.

These are the only decent ones in Enlgish. You could also try Retro Game Challenge as that has a couple of scrolling shooters in it.

Yeah, try Ketsui. Needs minimal English to comprehend, just stuff around in the menus and you'll get it. It's a great shooter, the best on the DS IMO.

Check out Warhawk DS, it's a homebrew, but it's so well made it might as well be a commercial release.
