Hacking From Rebug 3.55 to 4.84.2 REX

hello

owner of a PS3 slim for almost 10yrs and I had it left with Rebug CFW 3.55 for quite some time. I am now planning to update to anything suitable to play PS2 disc games with my little daughter

can I just update the 3.55 CFW directly with say the latest Rebug 4.84.2 and I am good to go also for keeping my PS3 games backup running without problems? they all have been 3.55 patched so I am nervous to lose access to them

Yes, you can update to any CFW from any CFW. If your CFW is so old that it doesn't toggle the QA Flag, you will have to install and run the respective app. ISO patching was only for games to work on a lower firmware than what they originally required. You will have to update your ISO loader (e.g. Multiman, Webman, etc.), as some apps will cease to work properly on higher firmwares.

thanks so much.I think I have seen this QA toggle in the rebug toolbox that came with the CFW 3.55 installed on my PS3. so I would need to enable this then just do a simple FW update with the Rebug CFW of my choice, job done right?
I was anticipating to update Multiman yes, never used Webman

Correct, update CFW and Multiman. QA Flag is probably already enabled; if not, it will just not let you update.

It worked without crashing or anything so I am relieved

Could only tried launching few ps3 games yesterday and it was ok so again good thing I didn't have to update MM to launch them

But the first Ps2 disc launch trial was not successful so I will need to spend time on this because that's my daughter karaoke one lol

I tried to install latest movian PKG but could not find it on xmb it used to go to videos section after install if memory is correct but it's just not there or anywhere I can obviously see that's really embarrassing
If someone could guide me here because I installed other Homebrew app and they show just fine

got the PS2 disc to launch from the XMB PS2 launcher in the end and game was fine

and also found out there was a new section in the XMB where Movian was sitting, I guess I have been used to 3.55 too long for all these years lol) anyway,thanks for your help, totally happy now

excuse me for barging in. I have PS3 Slim with Hen. Do playing PS2 games heat more than playing Ps3 games? I am just wondering since my PS3 is Slim and is emulating Ps2 games entirely. So it must be putting some big load on CPU.
Can I safely play PS2 games? Also how does Ps2 games look on Ps3? Or am I just better of emulating it on PCSX2?

PS3 games are easily more demanding for the CPU than PS2 games. Having a Slim, it is more efficient at handling heat. If you're worried, you could switch to SSD, as the HDD could be worse of a heat source than the CPU.

PS2 games do not look as good on PS3 as on PC, just like Dolphin. The amount of additional things you can do on PC to make the game look better will weigh against the simplicity of the PS3's CFW and emulation compatibility.

I agree with the fact PC emulation looks better than PS2 discs played out a PS3 console, even on a 4k TV.
but for me, the living room entertainment is driven by the PS3 so its more of a family place to have fun together with karaoke or dance games.

when I do serious gaming,its in my bedroom with my Mid-high End Gaming PC with all details and picture optimization cranked up as well as VSR ON with my VEGA64 LC GPU
