Hardware friend list trouble

hello, i have an o3ds xl on version 7.0.1-6d82649c of luma 3ds and i cannot access the friend list at all, when i click on it the consol loads the friend list icon then freezes, can someone help me?

Try updating to 8.1.1 and if you are still on a9lh, update to b9s first. Most problems are solved by updating.

I've had this issue before, not sure if the cause is the same, but you can do what the above user said and if that still doesn't work, just leave your 3DS for about 15 mins at most after it freezes, it should fix itself before then and be accessible.

ok, so i have downloaded the files required for the luma upgrade but how do i use them?

if you are on a9lh, follow this first https://3ds.guide/a9lh-to-b9s
then download the newest luma3ds and place the boot.firm in the root of your sd card.

ok so how do i know if i am on b9s, because i have 2 3ds's and i know i updated one to that but i can't remember if i did the other one,
