So if I’m already banned and can’t access eshop no reason not to go ahead and use this? I mean it’s too late for my switch anyways

Actually it's still bad to use it, because you will probably get your cert banned which means no more system updates or game updates, it'll be completely offline :/

Oh ok. Well I was wanting to get the new Mario Kart update with BOTW link. I thought this would be a way to get it done

You should just be able to just install an NSP for the game and then it'll download the update through your Switch, no point in risking your cert.

Well I have already got the xci othe game on my switch but when I open it it won’t bring up the box saying there is an update. Like it does with other games.

Yeah I've had that issue with using LayeredFS, some games would let me do an update but not all. So far I haven't had any issues trying to get an update for an NSP.

Sounds great! I had a certificate.cert in FreeShopNX folder when I used it yesterday, but today I shared that cert and that person told me it was banned. Now the question is, does FreeShopNX tell me if the fake cert is banned or it used my own cert without any advice?

Most likely it'll only use what you point it to, using yours by default would be too big a risk for the end user. Just know that most of the public certs are banned so unless you find one on a leak site you probably won't be able to use it.

But those same sites will have NSP downloads so it's up to you if you want to take the risk.
