Are there any known issues or quick fixes/ideas to check?

I have a few goals in mind: back-up saves and get a open ps2 loader cheats working.

I have freemcboot 1.953 and a gatestar sata hdd adapter with a sata drive loaded up which works normally.

Thanks!

The issue is likely the gamestar adapter.

if you can get to hddmanager to format drive - Loading hdd modules can take a little to load up.

your ps2 have a modchip(matrix, modbo, etc)? if yes, its likely him the problem. disable the modchip and try again.

Hate to bump this but how long exactly, I just installed SATAmod and HDDManager is stuck loading HDD Modules

So you have an official SONY network adapter with a SATA modkit? Is it a clone? Some of the eBay clones are less reliable than others.

Anyway, make sure the drive uses MBR partition tables and not GPT. A lot of modern drives may require you to redo the partition tables (usually formatting the drive will also have options to set the type of partition table). Once you've formatted the drive on your PC (and ensured that the partition table format is MBR).

And when you format your drive on your PS2 using uLaunchELF, it will use still another type of partition table (APA).
