So I wanted to play PSO yesterday on my newly hacked WiiU with my old character from the GameCube era.
After reading some tutorials with using dolphin to extract and rebuild and that kind of stuff, I decided to try something else.
I'd already played F-Zero GX (inject) on my WiiU and found that the save file is written as .raw in /saves/ , so I grabbed my old Wii from the attic and backed up my whole memory card through GCMM as .raw.
I wanted to see what would happen if I renamed the file to GPOP.raw (GPOP is PSO). You won't believe it, it reads everything from PSO and like network connection, characters, guildcard files etc.
I've copied the same memory card file to the WiiU again but gave it the code from Billy Hatcher and again, my save file is back.
It isn't really the most efficient method, but it works.
So to sum it up:
Backup your whole memory card through GCMM and it creates a filename.raw
Rename the file through your favorite method (pc, Mac, WiiU itself) to the game code (example: GPOP.raw for PSO pal) you want to use your save for.
Copy this file to your WiiU SD card /saves folder.
Start the game and your save is back from your GameCube.
Profit???...
