I have a crappy old LaCie drive which only lets me format it to NTFS. Is there any way to get it formatted to FAT32?

    why?

even if you were using linux, ntfs is fine.

although one would imagine that the OS will format it for you however you like.

if there is nothing on the drive then type this command in the command prompt

    Format E: /FS:FAT32

replace E which what ever your drive letter is
