Gaming Formating External to ps3 format

Not sure if this can be done. Is there any way to format an external hdd with the same file system that the ps3 uses? kind of like how you can have a FAT32/WBFS partition for the Wii.

I'm not looking for FAT32 info since i already have an external formatted to FAT32 but if it's possible to format it with the same os as ps3.

If not do you think this may be easy to do?

The only thing I could think of is somehow rigging the external drive into the drive port in the PS3 itself, letting it format, and then switching back to the normal hard drive for the system. No idea how that would work, or if its even possible. If you did in fact get it formatted, there would be the issue of if a USB port could read it. If it could be read by USB, then you'd probably have to wait for a homebrew that could do it easier, which I doubt will happen. It is an interesting concept though, and I hope you're not the only one who thinks this way.

It hasn't been done yet, but it's possible.

IIRC, it wasn't done before since they didn't have the proper keys in the ps3 or something like that.

You could actually clone your ps3's hard drive to another hard drive (the cloning software might not recognize the ps3 hdd format, but it could clone it bit by bit), but the backup managers probably can't read it as an external hard drive.
