Hacking FlashMe Tool?

K I'm going mad and I may just try to Flash my world: My DS Lite

But for the FlashMe Tool which do I need to use? There is so many! I need a tool that will work 99.99% even if it costs me $10! My DS Lite is about a year to a year and a half.

For shorting sl1, i always used some foil rolled into a stick, with some tape around it, that way, if it doesnt connect, you can give it a bit of a push and the end will shape better. As its a lite your flashing, be careful not to touch anything else on the inside, it seems quite easy to short it with one of the resistors close to sl1.

Still doesn't look safe at all... Can you buy a pro FlashMe Tool or something that works 100%?

If I'm not Flashing my DS is it safe to play with the SL1? See what makes it go off and stuff.

The act of touching the contacts near SL-1 when the DS is on has a tendency to power the DS off regardless if whether you're installing FlashMe at the moment or not. While this won't brick your firmware, I imagine it isn't any good for the electronics.

Tepples recommends two bent paperclips taped together with scotch tape so only two ends are exposed. I personally used aluminum foil and a toothpick, but this was with a DS Phat so I didn't have to worry about touching the wrong contacts.

EDIT: I've also used a very small, thin flathead screwdriver, which seemed to work well. If you do this though, you'd have to be very careful that the sides of the screwdriver don't touch anything they're not supposed to.

I also just remembered another suggestion I've heard. Bend off one prong of a paperclip and cut it off with scissors. Take a Q-tip and cut off the cotton part at the top. Insert the paperclip piece into the stem of the Q-tip so just a small amount is sticking out. Reportedly this is just thin enough to get inside the hole yet provides insulation for the metal part.

I hope that is a joke. How did you not brick it with that???

Just so you all know I've decided not to Flash my DS Lite but I will be Flashing someones phat soon.

no joke, i dont EVEN know how people are bricking there lites

plug in power (prolly not nessacery cause even if battery lite went red during, there is ample time to finish)
keep battery from falling out (wonder how many came disconnected on people during that critical 1st few %)
run flashme, press button combo
put foil in hole while applying /slight/ pressure (slight is the key... dont smash the foil in so hard it is crooked or the tip is mushroomed)

I'd bet that 99.9% of people who bricked their ds lite could bonk themselves on the head for the situation that created the brick.

That IS the tool i used todo the 4 in my sig and a friends with.. 5 for 5 with that same exact "tool" pictured, not a bad track record i'd say.

k guys i opened up the phat that needs to be fixed (new case and more) and i saw the SL1, HOW CAN YOU HIT THE VR1?!??! LOOK AT THE PHOTO!!! ITS SOOOO FAR APART!!

Dunno about the fat, but from what ive read the lites is MUCH closer together.

flashed a few ds' by now and i have to say its pretty foolproof.

i used the rolled tinfoil method, too!

never had problems.

Like i said, i will pre apologize to those who bricked theirs, but if you pay attention to the many tutorials, take care, it is not foolproof... it is idiotproof

I wouldn't say you *can't* brick it, but it's much harder to do so on a Phat unless you intentionally cut the power in the first few percentage points.
