Hacking first post, trying to learn about switch

i'm struggling with this and could use some help. i want to stay on 5.1, but i can't figure out how to make exfat work without messing with the firmware. i hear exfat automatically works with 6.0 so figured i would just update. i formatted the SD card to fat32 so i can boot rienx and update to 6.0 with ChoiDujourNX but the switch still tells me to update the firmware to use the SD card. don't wanna brick this console fooling around with it. whats the easiest way for me to get exfat working?

Did you use the correct files (with Exfat patch) with your firmware and checked the right box in ChoiDujourNX ?

i didn't get that far. from what i understand, in order to use ChoiDujourNX, you have to boot in to CFW, but i can't do that because my switch won't recognize a exfat or fat32 formatted sd card.

i just read a thread that says the switch supports fat32 by default. if this is accurate, why am i still getting a notice that says an update is required when my SD is formatted to fat32?

If the SD card is bigger than 32 GB, you cannot format it to FAT32 using the built-in formatter of Windows; Windows will default it to exFAT. You have to use a third-party program such as GUIFormat to format it to FAT32 properly.
