Hi gang

Been a while. So I went through the motions and Luma'd my 3ds and am currently on 10.7.

I can't find any definitive answer as to how I get on the newest firmware 11.2 without messing up the cfw. Some info I've found says that you update luma via the lumaUpdater app and then just run the firmware update via 3ds settings menu.

Is that right? It just seems a bit strange

If you are running a non-Gateway emuNAND, it is ALWAYS safe to update.
If you are running Luma sysNAND through the Homebrew Launcher or Menuhax, it is NOT SAFE TO UPDATE.
If you are running Luma sysNAND through a9lh, it is ALWAYS safe to update. On the extremely rare chance Luma doesn't work with a new update out of the box, you'll need to use the Luma Updater before updating, or use a PC to copy the new Luma files after updating.

Wait.... what if you are on a9lh on Luma and are using gateway emunand?

Whats different between gateway emunand and another emunand? And just so that we are clear, gateway emunand is the emunand that was availble when A9lh first came around?

I followed this guide: https://3ds.guide/installing-arm9loaderhax

So I guess that means im set to update via system settings whenever, yeah?

Quoted from the guide itself ...

Section IV - Restoring the System

3. Regardless of whether or not you did either of the above two steps, update your 3DS by going to System Settings, then “Other Settings”, then going all the way to the right and using “System Update”
  • Updates while using A9LH + Luma (what you have) are safe, stop asking about it

In the OP you should've initially you said you A9LH'ed your console, not Luma'd. Luma is not what's relevant, A9LH is. As long as you have A9LH installed, updating via system settings is safe.

If you followed the guide why'd you stop following it midway through, after installing Luma? There's more to be done, even after updating the FW.

3DS CFWs aren't actual custom firmwares, there are more custom loaders that patch the official firmware. As long as your CFW supports that OFW (Luma has done a lot of work to make sure it continues to work on future updates) and that you don't kill your entrypoint (i.e. updating sysNAND on a non-A9LH console), you're good.

I don't have a Gateway, so no clue. But I do remember back in the rxTools days, when 9.6 was released the Gateway camp threw a shitfit because the Gateway team was taking an eternity to make it compatible.

EDIT: By Gateway emuNAND, I mean actually using a Gateway cartridge. Nothing about the emuNAND formatting itself.

I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
