Hi,

I am currently on 6.1 running ReiNX 2.something. Looking to update as it seems that some of the latest games require at least 6.2 Getting errors while installing through Goldleaf.
I hear a lot of people still running 6.2. Is there a specific reason for that? Any reason why I shouldn't update to 7.X or even 8.X? Preferably I would like to update through online/official way as I don't care about burning any fuses or getting banned. But can go with ChoiDujourNX of course, if there are any benefits for me.

Cheers,

No, there is no reason to not upgrade to 7.0.1. But you don't need to upgrade to 8.0.1 because no games require that firmware yet. Better wait until everything is stable on 8.0.1.
Always upgrade with ChoiDujourNX in case you want to downgrade later. It's a simple process and you don't need to put your switch online.

The main reason people will hold off is compatibility, either the cfw or homebrew.

7.x wasn’t supported for a while and 8.x is fairly recent.

If you want to try updating to 7.x, I would make a nand backup and use CDNX with autoRCM to prevent fuses burning (easier to downgrade).

I don’t know if goldleaf does it, but have you tried resigning the software?

Ok, thanks for your input!

Sound like 7.0.1 then. But as I understand it, the main reason for me not to go 8.0.1 is stability with homebrew and cfw? As stated earlier, don't care much about burning fuses and the ability to downgrade.

I basically use cfw for RetroArch and playing backups.

Yes, resigning games for lower firmware is an option but a bit of a hassle in the long run if updating isn't a big deal.

ChoiDujourNX is the only way to update to a specific firmware right?

Cheers,

As far as I know, CDNX is the easiest way to upgrade to a specific firmware. You can get firmware from e.g. xbins.

Be aware though that autorcm is enabled by default, at least last I checked.
