Zone Alarm leaks memory a not exactly quick pace but as I do not make a habit of turning my firewall off...

Hardware firewalls (be they router or junk linux box based) are arguably the best way though.

The newest Zone Alarm Security Suite is just about as good as a hardware firewall. I connected my PC directly to the modem to see what it would catch, and I got a crap load of alerts very quickly

Be warned : It does use a lot of ram. Idling, it's half of what's in my ram (about 15k)

If you have to have the best protection, a hardware firewall and zone alarm suite is the way to get (for firewalls)

This is a little late in the game, but if you have an old P3 box with 256MB RAM or more, you can download Astaro and load it. It's INCREDIBLY powerful, standalone ... you just need 2 NICs.

Just don't use Zonealarm if you intend on using the Nintendo USB Wifi Connector as they are incompatible with each other.
