Hacking finally got my R4DS ! got some questions !

1.ok i download the v1.05 firmware and the v1.06 firmware but the v1.06 firmware download is just one file i need to overwrite it on the v1.05 firmware right ?

2.also when i look at the v1.05 skin in the system directory the icons have CHANGED ! the games are in the middle now is this correct ?

3.how much room should i leave for saves ?

4. what is on the mini cd included ? cuase my dam computer cant read these stupid little mini disks !





on a side note i think i got a new r4ds pack the micro card reader i got was actually pretty high quality its blue and it doesnt heat up like ppl are stating doesnt even get warm !

also i got a black and white replacement case with it too

3. Depends on how many games you have, There 512kb saves, so roughly leave 5meg for saves dependng on how many games you willl have on it
4. MiniSD contains crappy 1.00 firmware

ok very wierd like i said i downloaded v1.05 firmware from www.r4ds.net and look at the icon screen that was included with the download

see the game icon is in the middle ! im not nuts right lol ?



also my r4ds came with a card hold but it didnt come with a keychain thingie it came with a NDS strap that hookes up to the NDS !

my usb reader hard to tell in the pic but it is labeled different then the offical gbatemp r4ds review and it doesnt feel cheap or flimsey at all

hehe, you're not nuts (link). And the USB reader you got looks just like the one I've got. Works perfectly, hasn't failed yet. And that sucks that they gave you a NDS strap :/ I mean, the game case keychain has some use for carrying different games, but honestly...wtf puts their NDS on a strap and carries it around?

as for the skin i have no idea why the icons changed

also i took a pic of the PCB ! and it looks like it changes slighty everything is the same except a big glob of black glob i do not know what it is hinder acess to the main chip

i got a game holder but instead of a connecting keychain is a NDS strap also the inside is rubber

That's what my PCB looks like and I got the same reader/writer as you. They have just covered the main chip with some resin to hide it I think.

oh and i downloaded v1.05 then replaces the DS-Menu.dat with the v.06 beta so far soo good

but i was wondering is that moonshell up to date ? anyone know if i have to update it ?

Ah, the strap is connected to the plastic holder. That makes sense then

And the moonshell included is up to date with the final stable release (which I think is 1.51 iirc). You can update to the latest final beta of 1.6, but it's not the stable final. Nonetheless, I updated and haven't had any problems with it. Soft-reset isn't enabled inside of moonshell until the stable 1.6 final.

I think the black resin as one main purpose, to protect it from static. ALL IC chips are sesitive to static (Most IC's operate at or around 5 Volts while a static shock can deliver around 5,000 to 40,000 Volts)... R4 Did this so you can switch cases without brinking it. Secondly it helps from any mods to it, but who is really going to do that when the R4 itself is a mod in a sense....

You've got the 2nd batch R4 with new card casing and
better card reader... Lucky you.
Previous card readers(which many people seem to have problems with) are
lot more flimsy and falls apart with ugly green LED. Yours is blue LED right?

Thats the worst thing about the r4 imo, the crap quality parts used. Hopefully it will last a few years.

I have a completely different card reader to all the ones I've seen pics of. It's translucent black with a green LED. it has two "pyramid" type lumps on one side and says " 2.0 Trans Flash". It's really solid, but slow (~4.5mb /sec).
