No remake announcements for Final Fantasy VI just yet, but here's one way modern gamers will be exposed to that classic amongst classic Final Fantasy titles. Nintendo shared the Virtual Console retro download service's March lineup today, and Final Fantasy VI is included!

The full lineup looks like this:

Fire Fighting (Jaleco, Super Famicom, 800 Wii Points)
Hebereke (Sunsoft, Famicom, 500 WP)
Final Fantasy VI (Square Enix, Super Famicom, 900 WP)
Last Resort (D4 Enterprise, Neo Geo, 900 WP)
Puyo Puyo (Sega, Arcade, 800 WP)

I guess I'm solidly sold on the 3DS now.

Are you sure that's for the 3DS and not the Wii? I can't imagine they would put that out on the 3DS download service right off the bat like that.

The 3DS Virtual Store is said to only be holding GB and GBC games at least at the start. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it expanded to the content presented on the Wii Virtual Store after too terribly long. You know it wouldn't be difficult and would be a great business move.

Fixed that up for you.

How about an awesome business move? Gamers would be happy as hell to take some of those great classics on the road, while Nintendo would get lots of money for not a whole lot of work. Of course, you have to look at the fact that Nintendo seems to be pretty to go on a 3D remake spree, and older SNES titles may not be an exception when it comes to getting a super graphical revamp.

I'm pretty sure it'll happen. Remember nintendo loves pumping out remakes and rereleases.
Classics with updated graphics and 3d who wouldn't want to buy that?

I don't know, I'm not so big on classics with enhanced stereoscopic 3D. I think that sort of thing works only on games built from the ground-up, not so much as tacked on like an added feature. I don't think they'd re-release games w/o making a solid effort to convert their arts, textures, sprites into high resolution versions / 3D modeling...I'd really like them to just touch-up the games some. Either that or just enable them through 3DS FlashCarts XD (but that's a homebrew effort).
