If you want to apply the translation you'd need a PSP running CFW (and at this point there's no real impediment to this). That being the case it's a simple matter of dumping the UMD's to ISO yourself, saving yourself time and bandwidth and whilst legally questionable, it's certainly better than downloading.
Wouldn't it technically be legal because he legally bought the game?

I definitely encourage people to buy a real, legitimate copy of the game. I don't think we plan to distribute a copy of the game, only the files needed to get the translation working.

If I'm mistaken, NSRSM, Sky, please let me know.

I believe you are right. Distributing an ISO would cause a fair number of legal issues.

?? Really?
Isn't that what they were originally uploaded for?

This topic isn't the place for this sort of discussion, but no, ROMs weren't uploaded for all the people who bought games and wanted digital backups, despite what they'll tell you.

Laws vary from country to country. And a few years ago there didn't use to be any for this sort of thing, so in order to protect themselves websites would put a disclaimer up stating that you could only download a "ROM" if you owned an original copy of the game.

Nowadays laws have evolved, and specially since digital distribution started things are different. You can't download an ISO off the internet even if you own the original game in most countries. This is because you don't own a license to download it, which you get when you purchase a digital copy of a game, but only from specific sources (like Xbox Live for instance).

Now with that said, it is completely legal to create an ISO from your own physical copy of a game. It's even legal, to my knowledge, to modify this ISO in any way you see fit. It become illegal again if you try to claim any part of the game as your own, and try to make money off of it though.

This is how I understand this issue.

It's not quite that simple as circumventing copy protection isn't legal in many cases. And i'd imagine the same goes for modifying game content without the creator's permission.

Ideally the least legally grey way of playing Type 0 is if you use the PSN version.

We could put it this way: If u don't distribute ur copy online in anyway, who cares? Nobody comes to ur house saying "U have a copy of ur bought Game on ur PC? THen die" Something like that. It's a "grey zone" after all.

Nice to see some more interested people here :)

Stay on topic. There is no black and white. Only shades of grey. We will not be distributing an ISO(not to my knowledge anyway and nor would I). If the game is patched during completion it would simply be some sort of application the individual would need to use themselves. And even then it is simply transcribing the same content into a readable format.

Thanks for clarifying.

So any thoughts about the game itself based on what we have so far? I mean I love the game but saying that to myself doesn't illuminate others opinions of it for me.

ok, where to start.
i literally just read through all 14 pages of this forumn, and im simply dumbfounded as to how amazing this is. the fact that a team was brought together and so much progress has been made so quickly.
as with many others, we are all waiting for this. and Sky i hope you get your tool up and working flawlessly. also great job on getting all those videos down to size hopefully eveerything should compile back together nicely.
. as for the other team. keep up the great work, you guys are devoting serious time into translating everything you guys are the best.
im following this thread now =D

This is really awesome. Been wanting to play this for a long time, but I have VERY basic skills in japanese and will not understand the story at all. Keep up the good work, I really hope this doesn't die like many translations projects do unfortunately.

Guys, a found a bug (well, a possible improvement) in the routine that parses the FSD file, I will try to exploit it to fix the data install freeze. Yes, the bug is SE's fault: when parsing the FSD file, it takes file sizes from the next file, so it is not possible to relink duplicate files, as they would be the same, but having different next files, and thus different file sizes (so data reading would be completely messed up).
