OK, so yeah...I've just recently fixed my PSP after a year of it being dead, and the whole custom firmware scene has completely passed me by.

Basically I'm looking for the successor to Dark_Alex's old custom firmware, and a guide to installing it.

/psp-2000 red 'God of War" edition. 5.00 M33-6
//thanks

I heard M33 was better then Pro. Not sure though.

Let's just say no and leave it at that. I use 5.00M33-6 on 3 of my PSP's....and PRO on my Go....

m33 bether? its about how u look at it.
i would say, m33 got the cleaner code (easier to read and understand) and was the
first cfw (by D_A).
TN and PRO gave new life to the psp sceene, but without D_A i doubt that they
even had a chance of hacking the system.
its like the 3ds right now.
crown is the first. but when its release, other are going to coppy (taking origin code from crown and adding theyre own features).
but there are 2 thinks, that propably go for pro.
kompatibility:
no ones making HBs, plugin ore else for m33 (5.03) anymore.
every new HB, plugin etc (user generated software) will be for 6.20 and up.
dlc:
i know there are plugins (i think it was codestations) that do the same, but a build in noDrM engine realy is something fine to love.
most people wouldnt be allowed to play dlcs like the 1.4 or 1.5 dlc from GEB (god eater burst).

its only my opinion and a bit of logic, so plz dont flame me ^^

Personally, I run 6.35 Pro and have been extremely happy with it. It's been able to do everything I want, which is to say run the latest isos, run DLC and run PSX eboots. You'll really have to look at the most recent CFWs and see what meets your needs the best, but I'll throw out a recommendation for PRO.

Well, I'm pretty sure that PRO has better compatibility for homebrew and plugins, etc.. I use PRO on both my PSP GO and PSP 3000 and loving the fact that the new CFWs do not require pandora

just a lil reply for xX_xclusive_Xx:
pro isnt a cfw like m33 oder gen.
Pro is a temp cfw (everything will be loadet from the ms; no changes go to the flash).

Whoever told you that is wrong on every count...

says who?
if pro would take flash0 actions, then a psp 3000 or go would be bricked.
pro does add stuff to the flash, butr it dousnt replace any files.
so think about ure post, and gimme a contra.

There's a saying that if you're fine on the cfw you're on, then there's no reason to update.

I've been on M33 for quite a long while, it works pretty well.

Though for people new to the psp, PRO would be the best choice.

Yeah, your right, after all I'm am fairly new to the psp scene, only touched my psps in the last two years. But to my knowledge, there is a patch which opens up the bootloader and moves everything into flash? I'm not sure about that so you will have to correct me on that. Well, I had been using 5.03 with ChickHEN and CFW Enabler which is probably a temp cfw? As I said before, I'm not sure.. thanks for the help by the way!

False. It's the CIPL that won't work on later PSP models... so the PRO firmwares take an alternate route, patching vshmain.prx on flash0. Of course it encourages a test run first...

I would upgrade to PRO 6.20 (becouse it has perma patch) but if you are lazy just stay in M33 because some game saves may get corrupted and it takes awhile to uncorrupt them.
There are some things that M33 doesn't have. For example good PSN access, UMD mount, fake version and not forgetting newer OFW as base.

Apparently even you...

It adds to flash0 thereby flash0 has changed from it's default state. PRO needs not be temp if you take this one step further and overwrite the original vshmain.prx.

You can say it doesn't replace files in flash0 if you're only using it on a temporary basis, but if you installed a temp PRO firmware on a 3000, then Sony broke down your doors and chucked away your MS but kept your PSP then they'd only need to look at the flash0 modifications to know it'd been modded. Granted those additions don't risk a brick when done in isolation, but your statement is plain wrong when flash0 is changed from a default state and EVERY PSP can have a permanent version of PRO firmware....

6.39 and 6.60 PRO B9 have permanent patches as well.
