Ok, remember the prototype version of the 3ds that was revealed to allow you to remove and swap the placement of the circle pad and the d pad? Well the Wii U should definitely have that, but beyond that, you should be able to remove the standard plus orientation of the abxy buttons and be able to place in an alternate version of the abxy buttons that are shaped sized and located where they appear on the gamecube controller. This would be great especially for when the new smash bros comes out, and you use the Wii U controller but want the feel of the controls you've grown accustomed to.

Wouldn't it be easier to just map buttons to different buttons to get the same feel without interchanging parts? o.o

Surely you've used a gamecube controller and you've noted how unique those for buttons feel compared to any other system that uses the standard plus orientation. Plus, rumor has it the gamecube games will be playable via the virtual console, and that there is no gamecube controller Ports, it sure would be nice to play these games with the same classic controller layout we all remember

That would be just unnecessarily complicated. There would also be the worry of losing pieces, which would render the controller useless.
It seems to me that you are afraid of change.

If you read the statements of the design team, you would know that the positions were interchangable not because they were meant to be that way but because the team was undecided about what placement would be best and eventualy built a model for comparison's sake. It was never meant to be a feature of the product as it messes up the structural integrity of the whole unit.

The more solid of a controller is far better. While a nice thought, just not practical, for reasons stated previous.

Sorry, but change is constant, you'll just have to adapt. Memories are called that for a reason.

You all make it sound like it would be flimsy and complicated, when I'm sure if done right it would be incredibly simple and just as durable as a standard controller. At least that's what I'm envisioning, I'm not saying, hey, nintendo should make their controller shotty and difficult to change.

The positionings on the current Wii U controller work fine for the GC, excepting the second analog.

The ability to move the sticks is far less of something I'd be interested in,I actually see no issues with where both sticks are placed, I'd just like more than anything the ability to switch out simple cross shaped all same size and shape abxy buttons with a panel with the abxy buttons as they appear on the Gamecube controller, placement, size, and shape all as they were on the gamecube controller, if there is an ability to play gamecube games over virtual console as has been suggested, or Wii games that allowed for a gamecube controller, than this could be a great benefit (if done right of course).

There'll probably be a way to use a GC controller or something.
Classic controller?

Speaking of features...is there a headphone port on this thing? It only just dawned on me that Nintendo are touting that you can play this while someone else uses the TV but surely there must be a port otherwise 1. It'll be annoying to the person who is using the TB for something else hearing sound out of the controller. 2. Not hearing sound in a lot of games ruins the experience.

Why doubt when we are talking about a company who has dominated the core gaming handheld market. Yes, it has speakers and a headphone port.

This is actually one of the few things that gets me really excited about the WiiU. Whatever you want to say about Nintendo's home console releases (some didn't like the Cube, i'm sure most here loved it) you can't deny that Nintendo can DO a handheld. Like, this company makes the best damn handhelds out there and has done for a long time. That's not really up for argument. You've gotta think therefore that this tablet is going to be pretty much perfect by Nintendo standards - will that be enough to make the console itself great? I don't know, but having a fantastic handheld attached to it certainly won't hurt. And if it happens that you really can play Wii games on the tablet, as well as downloaded gamecube games... I don't know many people that wouldn't want to play some classic games in bed on a pretty big screen (compared to other handhelds).

More to the point here, I think there is something to be said for the interchangeable parts. It's certainly a nice idea that would keep a good number of fans happy. But I don't think enough people want it to warrant all of the extra stress it would bring in development, simple as that.

pressing the x and y button on the gamecube controller isnt as good as on a + positioning.
