Android fastboot oem unlock Unknown Command

I've been trying to root my new ASUS ZenPad 10, but the only method I've found involves unlocking the Bootloader and flashing a custom boot.img.

Now, here's the problem. "fastboot oem unlock" doesn't get recognised by the tablet:

fastboot oem unlock
...
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
finished. total time: 0.002s

I've also heard that this command has been changed on the Nexus 6P to "fastboot flashing unlock", so I tried that too, just in case, but it just prints the help.
Others in the thread seem to be doing just fine with this method, so I don't know what's up with my tablet.

Oh, and apparently the Recovery Mode option in the Fastboot Menu doesn't open the recovery, but instead factory resets the device, without any notice. Great.

My Xperia Z5C needed a bootloader unlock code to be added to the command. IDK about ASUS, just a guess.

Nah, ASUS isn't like that. And the other model of this tablet works fine with the command.
