What speed shall be achieved? Maybe a benchmark of a known good card could indicate the level for others?

Best setup to update is a known Company like SanDisk or Samsung. Full batteries and an original Gameboy

SanDisk Extreme PRO MicroSDHC 32 GB Class 10 UHS-I/U3 A1 V30

Are there any other problems with this firmware version (1.05e)? I want to play Pokemon Gold/Silver or Crystal - these games need a well-functioning RTC/Real Time Clock option.

The original Pokemon games should work fine.
Only the RTC in Pokemon Prism Mod does not seem to work right.

yeah i tested the 1.05 firmware, and it borked the RTC function so i had to go back to FW4, i do suggest you stay on FW4

Maybe it does not work on all cards, on my 3 it runs right except for a few minutes every month.
