Hacking ez flash iv brick?

hey not sure if this is the right place for this, but heres the issue. just got my ez flash iv today. formatted my mini sd card in fat 16. put ezfla_up in the root, put it in my sp, turned it on, held r, and then i saw for like a split second a few lines of text in the upper left. next the whole screen turned black for a good 5 minutes. i turned it off and on and it no longer recognizes the cartridge. putting it in the ds, it says theres no gba cart inserted. on the sp, nintendo is not printed at startup.

any suggestions?

I would format the miniSD and put the system files, update back on. Then clean the pins of the EZ4 with a qtip and alcohol and try again.

Cleaned thoroughly.nothing. Should I just buy a new one?
