I've had the same external hard drive for around five years now, and unfortunately I've had to occasionally unplug it before properly ejecting. So I was wondering what programs are available which scan external drives for errors, and problems of that nature, and remedy them before any serious issues possibly arise. Thanks.

If you're using Windows, right click the drive > Properties > Tools (or something like that > Error Checking > Check both checkboxes and wait for it to finish.
