Hacking exFAT brick switch?

I'm going to hack my 3.0.0 switch soonTM and am thinking of all the ways I could possibly mess up.

One way i thought of is say I make a back up of my untouched switch (so no exFAT), install the exFAT firmware, profit, and then restore my nonexFAT backup in the future.
Would the switch panic when it's trying to install nonexFAT firmware on exFAT firmware and brick?

A long time ago on this forum I asked Kate if Atmosphere was going to have built in exFAT and she said yes, is this still the case?

sidenote: I have to say how encouraged I am by this community. I see veteran members responding to noob questions all the time on this forum and I find that very sweet, especially given all that's going on in the world lately.

Since exfat doesn't burn fuses, I'd use choidujour to update your FW to your current version with exfat. Then keep a backup of that.

Though it really shouldn't matter, the format is for the SD card, not the NAND.

No, one problem you might get is if you go online and do an update. Because your switch never requested exfat, it will install the update without exfat. I don't know if nintendo get told that you had the update before. If you block all the update servers then it's not a problem.

It's possible, however Kate did talk up how quickly they were going to implement things. So don't hold your breath.

exFAT has a high chance of corrupting your data or nibbling away at your available space until you have none left. Stick with FAT32, the only downside you will run into is having to split an .xci (if you get SX OS). All .nsp will install over network/usb/etc. without needing to split.
