Hey all, not really SUPER new anymore, but new in the sense my posts have yet to recieve a response, so this is a long shot, but here it goes.

At first i was weary of modding the next gen consoles, the cost associated with a bricked console and getting it done till it works correctly might outweigh the costs im trying to escape (i.e. playing overrated graphic games that lack depth of passionate homebrew programmers) and while i know homebrew on the wii looks to be very weak, id like to get in as close to the ground level as possible.

im curious about the following.

1.Consoles being bricked, can nintendo brick my console via a patch?

2.can bad dvd burns brick my console? 2.b. if so, (and i suspect so), what is this brick detecter's effectiveness?

3.Would you guys reccomend waiting to see if the zelda exploit leads to the wii becoming the new age "dreamcast?"

im very sorry to have to ask these questions but google and gbatemp could not offer me this information, thank you for your time and have a nice day :]

[p.s. if everyone thinks old mmo gamers are dbags tell me so i can kill my siggy]

***EDIT*** if anyone knows of a solid IRC for wii and ds hacking homebrew or emulation ON(not OF) please drop the adress sirs :]

1. Probably, but they won't.
2. Yes, but only if it contains an update and the DVD fails at a critical point of the update.
3. Wait to do what exactly? If you mean wait to buy a wii itself then it would make more sense to not wait as Nintendo may release the newer Wii's unable to use the bug (like Sony did with PSP's with newer firmwares on it). If you mean wait to mod it doesn't make sense also as it'll probably only require a genuine zelda disc and a sd card if it's going to work like that...

yikes, certain i wasnt being clear, still very early for me :[

i should have clarified, when i said, waiting to see if the zelda exploit can be used, i should have said...

I own an older zelda game, purchased at the beginning of december of 2007, using the known exploit, would i be able to run other games as well?

To my understanding it had something to do with a certain code that your wii attaches to the game i.d. located in the .sav, so in theory you could modify the code to use your console i.d. so that it thinks the sav is native to your console, possibly by-passing the check to see if its a burned dvd or off the presses.

Anyways, with the information you guys gave me, it looks like il just go for a mod-chip, and im gonna go look into what exactly a brick checker is.

thank you for the awsome responses

Tweaked, the brickblocker program is simple it takes 15 seconds to run. you only need to run it on isos from a different region than your Wii. If you stick with ISOs from your region, you don't even need to run brickblocker.

And since bricking only occurs when other region disks are run that have an update, Nintendo couldn't update the firmware and make modded Wiis brick, cause if they did it would also brick unmodded Wiis.

The Zelda exploit has a long way to go, and might not lead to anything in regards to creating Wii Homebrew, too early to tell.

ahhh I see. I saw the update notice on my wii today (havent connected it online for ages) and saw that it a patch may render your console useless, but i guess in the event of something like that happening, this site would have massive news about it.

looks like im definetly gonna get my wii modded
