Hardware Everything I need to know about GC memory cards?

i have a wii, (later will want a real GC) i wanted to get a real gamecube card instead using emulated cards..

what is there to know about them? what diferent types, sizes, compatibilty?

i had seen termos like SDgecko or USBgecko
i made a quick search, they are adapters to connect to a memory card port. but would like to know more info about them

i had a MEMOR32 for the ps2 (a 32mb card with a usb port i could transfer my saves to\from it) is there something similair on the gamecube?

i am not sure if i should had post this on the GC section, but since it applies to the wii (and i am also interested in wii related stuff) posted it here

Standard memory cards range from 59 blocks to 1019 blocks. Some 3rd parties released 2043 as well (Nintendo left the feature unused).

SDgecko is used for homebrew. SD cards aren't recognized as GC memory cards.
It's similar to the Doubutsu no Mori e+ SD adapter. But I haven't tested that game with an SDgecko, or the official adapter with homebrew.

USBgecko is also for homebrew.

USB memory cards were made. Don't know much about them either.

are there diferent sdgeckos? i can load homebrew\games through sd gecko right?

The exterior varies, not that it makes a difference. More than one brand made.

You can load homebrew/games. A modchip makes sdgecko easier to use though.
datel's sd media launcher (or some action replay versions) is like the only boot disc for normal gamecubes, which lacks sdhc support.

Unless you're using a special card like a gecko, stick to first party cards.

Even with first party cards, one the Wii there are sometimes issues with the 1019 block cards (the white ones), don't leave a white one plugged into the Wii when it's in standby mode and it should be okay, but to be safer still stick with the 251 black cards (the 59 gray ones are ridiculously small so I wouldn't bother with that unless it was all you could get). I've never had an issue with my white card, but it's enough of a common issue that you should be aware.

Also, if you intend to play any Japanese games, they will need their own memory card. You don't need an import card, any card will work, but if you have NTSC U or PAL and try to save in an NTSC J game, it will want to format the memory card before saving.
