Hey all!

Have Yoshi Wolly disk. Wanted to back it up with the brazilian method USB. Launched it on the USB to verify its working. Didnt detect any saves. Then I quit out and launched the disk.... no saves....

What happened?? Did I just lose all my save games?????

Most likely it created a empty save on your USB drive

Your original is probably stored on the Wii U system memory

Check the time stamp to make sure you're not deleting the wrong one

I didnt delete anything yet. I'm just launching my disk version after launching the eshop one and its not finding any saves..

Go into the system settings and check the data management

There's probably one in your system memory and another on your USB drive

One will be the empty save file and the other will be your full save

Ok so update!

I shut down the wiiiU and unplugged the HDD. Powered it back on and the save appeared! So it looks like even if you launch the game from the disk it will read the eshop USB save by default??

Anyone hear of that?

All there in the console manual. All files for an app must be in the same drive, the other storage places are ignored

Yes, the original save is probably still tied to the WII U internal memory so what you need to do is go into data management and copy the save from internal storage over the one in your external drive. This will overwrite the eshop verson of Yoshi's Wolly World too but when you reinstall it you'll have the original save working.

You should ALWAYS move your game save from nand to usb BEFORE you install the game or that will happen.

OK! So I used the data management tool to copy the Yoshi save to the USB. Guess what..... IT REMOVED THE ESHOP YOSHI!! Now I can boot the game from the disk with the USB drive installed, see my save game but the eshop version is gone..

Yeah I kinda said that would happen... Just reinstall the game and it'll read your disk save instead of creating a new one this time around.

I moved my Splatoon Save to USB early on, and backed it up to the NAND occasionally, playing it from disc every time. Now I installed it with the Brazilian hack, and my save plays fine from USB, like nothing changed. :).

Totally! Just had no idea the order of things!

So it looks like

A - If there is a disk game in the drive AND that same game is installed via eshop, the wiiU will ALWAYS read the USB save over the nand one unless you unplug the USB HDD
B - If you want to install a game you normally run off of disk, make sure to copy the save FIRST before installing it.

That sound about right?

Yes exactly.

Awesome thanks for the info guys!

Bonus question: I had a game fail to install (bad SD card write) Rewrote it and it installed fine. Everything working great. BUT, when I go into the data management for the USB drive I get the "there is unused data bla bla" error
I heard stories of it taking hours and hours and some stories that it never completes. Just one of those things I should just leave go overnight?

I've had that happen multiple times... for me it just takes a few seconds...
