So I have a very good Singaporean friend. She loves Singapore so much, but hates how the people gave up so many freedoms to the government. Granted Singapore is ridiculously rich now and clean. Still though, she complains that the government is too powerful and watchful.

Sadly I feel this is similar to today's government in America, with the US patriot act and such.


I think anti-piracy laws have been flawed since the beginning.
If I can get your song for free so easy, how on earth are you going to tell me I need to buy it?

Flashcarts doesn't have to be used with roms, BUT it can run roms, that is why it is banned.

so true... :'( that is such a stupid reason as why to ban flashcarts, cuz if thats the reason they have, why dont they say they are going to ban all computers and all other related things? computers don't have to be used to pirate software, BUT it CAN be used to pirate software.

So true. If I was selling those items and they raided my store and tried to fine me I would fight the fine. I would probably use your argument too. I have optical drives on my computer that are more than capable of copying games (and makes dang good copies too) but it doesn't mean that they have to be used that way. I use perfectly legal hardware to do my duty. Flash carts and modification chips are originally designed to allow home users to run homebrew software on their consoles. The ability to play backups tend to be a side effect of this since the software no longer has to be signed.

Er, what do you mean by Singaporeans give up freedoms to the government? We are simply too busy with our stuff than to be involved in political stuff. It is true that any strong opposition against the government can bring about harsh penalties, but it doesn't really matter since the government is pretty good, and there's no major complains about them. Singapore is what it is today, is because of our current government, that is why we are very grateful to them. Besides, the anti-piracy law has to be tough, to encourage creative media to grow in Singapore since we are always welcoming foreign talents and MNCs to come in. It is just not nice to have your intellectual properties getting stolen or people getting their hands on your creation without paying for it right?

It is because its easy to get your song online easily, all the more the anti-piracy law has to be tough. Not long ago, there is a huge controversy over Odex, our local anime distributor, they are tracking Singaporeans who are torrenting animes distributed by the, and many have been fined heavily. Harsh punishment for the people? True, but at least its effective, many do not dare to illegally download animes anymore.

There is a difference between CDs and flashcarts. CD comes out are empty, capable or storing datas, what can you do to the CD to prevent a user from burning game ISOs onto it? While for flashcarts, it can be produced without the ability to run commercial games.

For modding and flashcarts, Funz Centre at AMK Hub is your best bet. I don't think they have been raided yet, and I don't wish for them to be raided any time soon (so don't tell on them ok?

)
