I keep getting this error while trying to restore my iPhone 4. My phone is extremely slow. So I want to restore it. I have 5.0.1 and I want to keep it at 5.0.1 but it keeps trying to update it. I also tried putting it in Dfu then shift clicking on the ipsw but no luck.

In order to restore 5.0.1, you need to create a "stitched" IPSW (one with your SHSH blobs pre-inserted). You can do this with redsn0w, in "Extras" > "SHSH blobs" > "Stitch."

After the IPSW is created, you need to put your iPhone in "pwned" DFU Mode (again with redsn0w). Fire up iTunes, Shift-click "Restore," and browse to the IPSW.

Let me know if you're still having problems.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
