OK so I've got an R4 flashcart on the way which I plan on using to run homebrew on my New 3DS which is unfortunately running on 9.8. My main reason for doing this is to run a SNES emulator. My question is, if I run an emulator from the R4 will it run in DS mode and thus at a lower resolution? Also, will it be able to take advantage of the faster processor in the n3DS or will it run exactly as it would on a NDS? My aim is eventually to get a DSTWO to replace the R4, if somebody will sell me one. But in the meantime R4 is my only option.

1 Yes
2 No

Hi, thanks for your reply. Sorry but I don't understand the answer :shy: Did you mean yes it will run at lower resolution, and no it won't be able to take advantage of the faster n3DS processor?

Yes, you fully understand

The R4 will not run on your N3DS because it was blocked in a much earlier firmware. One of the only NDS flash cards you can use is the DSTWO.

From r4wood.com:

Below system versions will not block R4i-SDHC 3DS RTS.

yeah your not really going to get any sort of enjoable experience with snes games on a standard NDS flashcard, the only half decent snes emulator for NDS relies on the DSTWO to emulate as the DSTWO packs a extra co-processor inside the card to lighten the load when it comes to emulation......and DS mode on 3DS/n3DS is exactly the same as playing the games on a standard DS, no extra processor speed, or ram or anything like that is available while in DS mode
