So, I have this idea, but I'm not sure if it'd be exactly legal or not.
We can emulate 3DS Game cards into Cia files right? So why don't we emulate Sky3ds, or gateway cards, but mod it (like how people can mod Nintendo games) so that instead of reading from an Micro SD inside the cartridge, it reads directly from the SD card you have inside the SD slot of the 3DS system.

That way, the games would already be there, without having to use a Cia installer. You could also play Original DS roms.
So, pretty much the only thing you'd need to install via FBI/other, is the Sky3ds/Gateway cia itself.

I know the idea is far fetched, but I'm just looking for opinions.

If you have a problem to point out in this idea, please be respectful, and don't be snarky. Again, its just an idea.

Gateway's launcher.dat is encrypted, plus they use hardware in the cart to do what they do.

Also with DS roms, in DS mode the console does not have access to the SD card which is why we don't have installable DS roms already.

No. The cia file extension in this specific instance is more convenient. Why? Well it's because then we'd have to create a way for the .3ds file extensions to work off of the SD/mSD card in the console. Along with saving properly. You wouldn't be saving any space, and the CIA is installed straight to the home screen. The reason for GW's loader is so that you CAN read games off of the cartridge, which was originally intended. Same with Sky.

It just wouldn't be practical in my opinion. It might be a nice PoC.. but outside of that? Not so much.

Oooh, I see. So it'd just be more trouble to go through developing? I feel like I'm taking Rxtools and FBI for granted. One of my major aspects of the idea was so that you wouldn't have to take up memory saving games onto SD's, but instead to the 3DS itself. I have a 2 GB SD (which was a 4 GB before I formatted it via Gateway) and I can only fit like, 2 games at a time on it.

Thanks for your input by the way. :)

If you can save up $30-50 you can get a 64GB msd. :)

Just gotta make sure to delete the cia when done installing.. And also have a backup. Oo

Well, the thing is, I can't seem to be able to upgrade my card right. I've tried several times, following the instructions, but I access the emuNAND, but cant get FBI to run, and my apps don't show. I wanna just format my 3DS and do everything again, but it takes a while, and I don't wanna get bricked.

(funny how some people who know what they're doing got bricked, and I, someone who didn't know what I was doing didn't ^^; I just hope they can fix their 3DS')

You can get a 64gb msd card for less than $30 on Amazon. I just got a sandisk ultra 64gb for $25 if I recall correctly.
