well, i found my old cd of psychonauts--i decided to run it on my ps2 but it wont work--so i downloaded this .ISO for a whole week(1 seed!) on the internetz..

sadly it wont work--and that old psychonauts dvd was read by my dvd drive just once--cause the cd is full of scratches..

but in that short time--i noticed something on that old psychonauts game--there is a ISO file--and some other file i cant remember---i searched about it on the internet--i think its a boot sector or something..

so what will i do--i only have the .ISO file--i burned it on a dvd--it wont work...help?

Solution
The same way you burn .ISO for wii games is the same thing you do for ps2 games.

Use ImgBurn, burn the game, pop it in the ps2 in play.
If that doesn't work, check if the laser in the ps2 is dead.
To do that, pop in a different game, see if it'll read it.

If that doesn't work, don't use sucky brands to burn games with.
Don't try to go cheap!

The boot sector thing doesn't have anything to do about this, it's just to tell the ps2 if it's a legit game or not.
IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO COPY THE BOOT SECTOR ITSELF.

As for the .ISO file, that IS the backup of the game.
It's the game itself.

omg--yes i know that...jeez

well--its my first time burning ps2 games--i always buy ready ones---and im use to burning ISO on DVD like wii--but this method wont work on the ps2--it needs some other file other than the ISO!

There are lots of options, but if the CD is truly scratched, all you need is some toothpaste and a paper towel. Just dab some toothpaste on it scrub from center to the outside of the cd in the areas it needs it...or the whole thing. Then with a damp(not wet) soft cloth wipe it off. Works wonders. I've fixed many cd's DVD's with this method.

That method is not fixing as much as cleaning. What scratches do is stop the laser reading by filling with dust, toothpaste and a soft cloth will clean it up so it might be readable, but it won't last forever obviously. But it could last long enough to make a backup for it for example.

Another simple solution is to bring it to a resurfacer. Blockbuster at the corner of my street does that for like 3$, takes less than 10 minutes, the machine is right there. Worked like a charm for me.

As for making DVD backups, I don't know what's your problem or program you use. Personally I use DVDDecrypter for copying PS2 games. Put disc in, Select ISO read, tell it where to save, put a black in, Select ISO Write, select the saved image, and that's it. I copied games I rented like that, less than 30 minutes.

You can find the last version of DVD Decrypter floating around the net, as it hasn't been updated in years, it was shut down or abandonned or something, but works like a charm for PS2 games still.
