Hardware Dual Shock 4 button/re-sync issue

So today for no apparent reason my up button on my d-pad stopped working. I want to try to re-sync my controller to the PS4 to see if that will fix it, but the weird thing is I put a paper clip inside the little hole to reset it and it turns off the dual shock 4 but it's still synced to the PS4. I can't find any case on Google of this happening.
