Hacking DSx86-3DS Mode C-layer

Since the 3DS already works in DS mode, basically it will work as is on the 3DS anyways. It'll be as slow as it is on the regular DS of course.

If you want NATIVE support that's an entirely different story, and isn't worth discussing until there is some way to enable 3DS mode. So there's no point in discussing a 3DS 'port' until then.

y, indeed i just said that it is hacked already by a wrench and a screwdriver

anw, afaik this is just about the dos port and not about how the 3ds is hacked and is in possible
what i'm saying is that it's likely to come on the 3ds in time
Your keyboard seems to be broken.

This is an amusing thread, indeed.

I have ordered a 3DS myself, so if/when it eventually gets hacked (and a usable SDK gets created), I will most likely look into porting DS2x86 to run natively on it.

The 320x240 and 400x240 resolution screens would work quite nicely for DOS emulation.

Or, as was mentioned, it might then also be possible to port DOSBox to run on it, in which case porting DS2x86 would not even be necessary (if the processors on 3DS are fast enough).

This is great news! Thanks for your hard and continued work in creating one of the most awesome emulators ever, Pate

3DS has roughly the power of PSP, and a PSP port of DosBox does exist, so it might work. I've never seen it in action, but from the comments on the internet it seems that DSx86 has actually better game compatibility than PSP DosBox...

Roughly? I'm pretty sure it's been taken apart and been confirmed to have an 800MHz CPU or something along those lines. PSP is 333MHz.

It's been taken apart and they found there's naked Jessica Alba inside.

NO.

No one knows the parameters of 3DS' CPU except for the fact that it has ARM architecture.
You cannot even "take it apart". The CPU and the GPU are glued together in one custom chip labeled "Nintendo ARM" and that's it. A black box.

I was thinking that the ievo has a compatibility layer for DSi mode. The DSi has an ARM cpu. The 3DS has a ARM cpu as well. WAY WAY more powerfull and more memory. Thinking just now that the ievo should get a 3DS compatibility Layer! and that would make DSx86 fly!
Windows XP by DSx86 or even DSlinux by DSx86. I know it sounds like "OMG DUDE YOU ARE RETARDED." but at this rate homebrew is going this could be very very possible. It would need what? libnds to be updated with for 3DS hardware. DSx86 recompiled. = 3DSx86.
Sounds wierd but very plausible.

we will talk about this things, after 3DS Mode gets actually hacked.
which might be tomorrow or in 5 years.

It doesn't have roughly the power of the PSP either. It's power exceeds the PSP as shown by many titles released and to be released.

are you serious? Till now every Titel released in japan look worse than actual PSP Titels.

The 3DS and psp should have around the same power, as both are using a different architecture its hard to compare.

Wii>PSP and the 3DS has been proven to have almost the same power as the Wii, so yeah there you go. Also, why don't you try watching some Resident Evil 3DS gameplay footage? You'll seriously own yourself.

Wii and 3DS have not the same power, thats again just a rumor! Maybe in some areas with this tiny screen they can have around the same power, but did you check what a PICA 200 can actually do on DMPs website, maybe you should do it.

Yes I saw RE and it looks great, still nothing which couldn't be made on the psp and they are not release titels, are they?
Did you ever play peace walker or MH3 on psp? thats what i mean!

And have you seen God of War on PSP ?

To be clear:
- there's CPU processing power (clock speed, number of cores, cache...)
- there's GPU processing power (triangles per seconds, fillrate, number of pipelines...)
- there are GPU features (pixel/vertex shaders, antialiasing, OpenGL level...)

Clearly, 3DS' GPU features are better than PSP's - there are built-in shaders and so on. But for the rest - who knows ? I'd say there are in the same league. There were rumours 3DS' CPU has two 266 MHz cores - I can believe that... but certainly nothing close to 800 MHz mentioned by Brian10122. And when emulating consoles, it's the CPU power that counts.

I've played and completed Ghost of Sparta.

Watch this and this.

As far as the 3DS being comparable to the PSP...

Also, the dual 266Mhz CPUs were rumored by IGN, and how many people take them seriously anymore?

yes
ign is most likely full of sony fanboys

who was the one who rumored that the ngp has a quad core
and who is the one that rumored that the 3ds had an inferior cpu
and who got the amount of ram wrong?

Your keyboard seems to be broken.

i wrote that while teaching sy English b4 his exam, that's what u call and EPIC and ironic fail ><

i don't try to defend sony[i hate them] but the psp has unused resources as well, it was just hard to work with
but clearly, the 3ds is more powerful, it could run the resi5 engine, of course the downgraded graphics due to the much lower resolution is there, it still eats up a lot of raw power which the psp couldn't handle

however, correct me if i'm wrong, but when emulating, the resolution doesn't really mean anything because it remains the same as the emulated program was intended to be, so i guess we won't see much more powerful emulation, but it's still a handheld and finally can run in at least 320x240 [probably no need for extra scaling methods like on the ds]

lil off: +1 for ign being sony fanbois, just another example:

I'm kinda lost... are you being ironic here ?
Isn't NGP's CPU quad core ?
Isn't 3DS' CPU inferior to NGP's ?
Isn't the amount of 3DS' memory not known yet ?

And as for:

PSP and DS are basically dead now. Who would spend time developing for dead consoles ?
I also wouldn't count on game developers' honesty. Let me remind you the infamous:
QUOTE
Recent hardware speculations where supported by various developers comparing the graphics of the Nintendo 3DS to PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox360, saying the portable device can match the power.
