I just got a DSTWO and I'm having a bit of an annoying time with it. Immediately when I got it, I was having issues getting it to detect on my DS Lite or 3DS, so I made sure to download the latest kernel and the latest firmware, but that hasn't helped.

On my DS Lite I have Auto Mode turned on, and it can take 5 or 6 reboots before my DSTWO is detected and boots into the flash cards firmware. I have tried multiple different micro SD cards and none of them seem to make a difference, and one of them is from my Gateway blue card (r4i clone?) Which works without any issues.

Any ideas on this? The person I bought it from said that it worked every time for them on their DS and 3DS. I also have no issues with any other flash cards on my DS or 3DS, and I am nor sure if it's a contacts issue on the DSTWO side because it will work after several reboots even if I don't reseat the cartridge or anything.

everybody lies... he could had problems and wouldn't tell you about it to make the sale

but anyway. does this happen on both consoles?

did ya try to clean the contacts? probably it just needs cleaning...

also, did ya formatted the sd cards with panasonic formatter?

Sadly, I know, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Yes it does happen on both consoles, but the 3DS acts a bit differently.

If the DSTWO was not detected on the DS Lite at boot, it doesn't seem it will have a chance of being detected at all regardless of how many times I reseat it.

For the 3DS, it might not be detected at boot but I can reseat it a couple of times until it works, but then it sometimes gives me the black "error has occurred screen", but definitely not always.

I tried cleaning the contacts on the DSTWO but that did not seem to work. I have not formatted either micro SD with that tools, just the windows one. I might give that Panasonic one a shot, and maybe even gparted on Linux if that doesn't work.

thats exactly how the ds lite works, even if you put a original game card, after you turn the console on, it will now show up unless you restart the console.
the 3ds doesn't need to be shut down. you can "hot swap" the card the card out

use the tool i just gave to you.. use format overwrite and adjustment ON

Sounds like a contact issue. Have you played games on it and had any issues with random freezes?

Not extensively, I will try and get a couple hours of gameplay in today. I tested out several games for only a few minutes and none of them had any issues with freezing or anything like that.

    EDIT:
I tried formatting my micro SD with that Panasonic tool, but it made no difference.

I tried the paper trick with no luck. The DSTWO was incredibly tight and seemed to start "more" consistently at first, but was then followed by a long streak of it not working.

Do you guys think it could be a contact issue if it starts working after several reboots without reseating the cartridge? Also, if it is a contact issue, it must be a problem with the DSTWO since it happens on both my consoles, so are there any tips on that?

I also tried playing some Pokemon Fire Red and had no issues or freezing.

    EDIT:
I have pushed the paper trick as far as I can and it looks like it's not going to help. I also noticed that the screw hole on the DSTWO is stripped so the screw is sitting loose, could this be part of my problem? If the DSTWO casing need's to be tighter, I can try and put a dab of super glue in the hole to recreate the threads.

I also just successfully got into the DSTWO menu on my N3DS, the went home without rebooting or reseating the cart, and then when I tried to boot back into the DSTWO, I got the black error screen. I really can't pinpoint what the problem is, it really doesn't seem like a contacts issue.

I followed this tutorial and it seems that I'm having better luck on my 3DS, though my DS Lite isn't doing any better, so it may be placebo.
Cleaning the contacts again and using dstwoupdateb.dat seemed to improve my condition the most, but I'm still not seeing the flash card on my 3DS home screen 8/10 times.

Mine had problems every now and again, I just remove it and wipe the contacts off. I mostly works.

This. My DStwo is inconsistant. Removing it from the slot and putting it back mostly fixes it.

the DSTWO build quality is pure shit ,i have always had contact issues with mine from day one , with both the card not being detected in my DS lite and with the MSD not being detected by the DSTWO , if it's not one this it's the other , just keep trying it will work eventually also i hear it is not as bad with other systems but i think i still got issues with my 3ds xl

2-5/10 times is still pretty annoying, though I may deal with it since it still works when I get booted into it.

contact issues aside it is still the best card and you are lucky to have one because they don't even make them anymore, one problem i think is the extra CPU and memory chip the DSTWO uses it makes the DSTWO fatter, because the extra chip does not fit properly into the chasis of the card and it makes the sticker bump up so it makes it fit really tight in the ds lites card slot

If you're still having issues, maybe try using a pencil eraser to clean the contacts?
As weird as that may sound, it helped with a cartridge of mine a while back. It wasn't a DSTWO, but it was having issues being recognized by my 3DS.

Oh, maybe it's not clicking in properly because of it fitting in tightly?

yeah exactly thats what i think ,maybe some hair clipper oil and lube it up and it will slide better
it always works eventually for me though, sometimes i use some carboard from a match book in the cart slot and other times use folded piece of notebook paper in the MSD slot when i keep getting "no find SD"
seem to do it with cheaper older MSD cards
mine is spring loaded version im not sure if they made a non spring loaded one too but mine is spring loaded

No matter how much or how little paper I put in with my DSTWO, it seemed to make no difference. The thing I find the MOST odd about this is my experience with the DS Lite. Simply turning it on and off over and over again will make it work, without ever taking the flash card out.

Isn't the DSi's cartridge slot a little bit bigger than the SLOT-1 DS cartridge slot and the 3DS cartridge slot?
