Hacking DSi to end GBA era?

I believe there WILL be a continuation of GBA on the DSi, except they will expect you to PAY to download GBA games through their DSware stuff. Screw that noise.

I hope the DSi fails harder than an preschooler at a calculus test, because I foresee it as a testbed for digital downloads for ALL games in the future if it's successful. That would mean no more carts, which would also mean ROMs would be harder to come by and piracy will take a big hit......at least until the hackers find some exploit or something, if ever.

wii-ware is all over and very easy to find. i wouldn't worry about the exploiting of downloadable content.

Oh ffs what the hell.. slot-2 isnt just for GBA games, its also for add-ons like the guitar grip, extra RAM, rumble etc. Nintendo wouldnt release things like the guitar grip that close to the announcement to the DSi. Think about it, its been what a few months from the release of Guitar Hero: On Tour. Also this has been said by Nintendo Officials that the DSi is merely a sister product to the DS i.e. something along the lines of a gameboy micro. The gameboy micro was a sister product to the advance and sp and guess what, it only played GBA games. But yeah GBA games have been discontinued and are gonna die, but slot-2 as I said before has been transformed into an accessory port.

So for people like Gerinych, STFU ITS ONLY A BLOODY SISTER PRODUCT!

perhaps you should post more than 3 posts before you rudely call out another member of the forum with your curse phrases. slot-2 has been removed, its gone. no more guitar grip, no slot2 ram, no gba... the DSI is for DS, download content, and msd expansion only. with the lack of slot2 cpu there i no chance of even seeing slot 2 support at all.

The last new GBA game in Japan was Final Fantasy VI Advance. November 2006.

Though for US/EU, it managed to keep going about a year longer.

For those worried about digital downloads and the end of flashcards/piracy, the iPod Touch & iPhone both get games and applications through the iTunes Store. These were cracked within a week of the service launching. (And still work to this date) Yeah, it definitely gets harder, but I believe there will always be a way.

i'm the exact opposite, i haven't played a pc game in probably 10 years. i mostly stick to emulation, ds, and my ps2 right now.

Well i do think that it's not matter of whether we want to play GBA games or not, it is the external hardware support

I'm just tired of the incremental upgrade concept - did anyone else hear about that digital camera that was hacked? Someone realized that all of the 'new' features that came with the next model were already present in the first one, they just weren't accessible from the system menu. So the new models have the same exact hardware as the first, they just updated the software to enable new menu items. The DSi isn't quite the same, but the concept is there - they expect us to buy another piece of equipment that replaces something with most of the features of the new gadget, paying full price for a few new options. At this point, the only way I would consider moving (not upgrading - too much is lost to gain the new features) to the DSi is if they had some sort of rebate option - I would prefer a direct trade, since giving up slot-2 means giving up a LOT of functionality. But that will never happen - they're a business, the primary function of which is to make money. Long live the homebrew movement! We need more people creating content for the sake of creating, like it was way back when - the content was usually a lot better, because the people creating it were striving for perfection, not profits.
