Saving is easy. However spending is a different story. In the end theres one option for me to get 3ds and thats to sell my xl because my bro and parents wouldnt allow it.

Stupid but - why not try hiding the XL from them and tell them that you sold it off? Few months or so you take it out again?

I figure if I wait a year or a little longer Nintendo will release an upgraded 3DS like they did with DSi (XL).

Plus no money for retail games I am dirt poor unfortunately. I only have 120 because they don't want me to spend it.

You can wait. But those who discuss about the redesign - it is just a rumor.

Look at it this way:
DSiXL
-Bigger: easier to grip
-Screen: its bigger
-Battery life: it's longer than the 3DS's
-Games: a good library already available
3DS
-Next gen: more powerful and better
-Games: Good load of games coming in November-2012

I'd say stick to the XL, and when November-December rolls around, see if theere is a game you want, and THEN buy the 3DS. And a flashcard. The R4i Gold 3DS one.
EDIT: oops, nevermind, thought you HAD a XL. Get the 3DS. NOW.WITH A FLASHCARD.

Of course the 3DS. No point in getting an older console for the same price as the newest one, which will be able to run all the awesome games that are coming out like Super Mario 3D Land, Paper Mario 3DS, Mario Kart 7...
Even if there aren't currently that many games worth getting, there is no sense in getting a DSi XL now and then getting a 3DS later when more games are available for it, it will just end up costing you twice as much and the 3DS runs DS games just fine. If you're concerned about battery life, I suggest getting a USB battery that can charge devices and a USB charger for DSi/3DS and you'll have several hours extra depending on how big the battery is. Plus it can charge other devices too.
You know you'll get a 3DS sooner or later if you want to be able to play any new games that come out and a price drop isn't likely to happen any time soon considering it just had a huge one so there's no sense in wasting money on a DSi XL just to delay purchasing a 3DS.

I'm not 'delaying' getting a 3ds like I said seeing as there is currently only on game out that I honestly want, and it will stay that way for quite some time; I questioning the vaule of getting it. I have acess to a plug 4 hours out of the day /if/ I get home one time. So if I were to get a 3ds I woild have to invest in a new battery or an exta charging rig and the game I want. I've already bought a flash card, so that's not an issue. But the price to get the 3ds running like I need to is quickly growing. Also either way thinking about it because if that if I were to get either system I would probably am to get them used rather then new.

I went years without getting a dsi, have never owned a wii, its not the new system thats catching my eye its the single game that I havent played since I was a kid. Odds are that without OoT I wouldn't even be considering a 3ds at least not until several games caught my eye.

The mainun point to my question was is it worth getting the new system based on wanting one game or am I betteroff sti king to the ds xl?

I don't mean to come off as a jerk but that slightly rubbed me the wrong way sooo I needed to clear things up.

It's better off investing on the 3DS if you want future solid purchases and still can play your DS games.

That said, you seem to be extremely worried about the battery. Mine lasted a whole long 6 - 7 hours on 2D content, which is the same as my present day XL battery. If you are still worried, the Nyko Power Pak is there if you want no second analog and extra triggers.

Nintendo 3DS > Nintendo DSi XL in every way in my opinion.

Size is just a preference... I prefer my handhelds to be portable...
Exactly, size is a preference, hence why they should have released an optional large 3DS.

Anyway, I say go for the 3DS unless you play a lot of DS games, in which case definitely the XL.

So I'm having a bit of a delema depending on how you look at it. To make a long story short about 3 months back my ds lite was stolen, sucks but thems the breaks.
Sorry for you, pal.

When it happened I swore I would replace it and upgrade to a DSI. While since then I've had the chance to play with the DS XL and fell in love with it, however with the 3DS' price drop I now have a choice seeing as the two systems are the same price.
I see...

The reason I'm considering the 3ds is mainly for Oot, I loved the game as a kid and would love to play it again
You don't mind other games? What kind of games do you like? JRPG? Shooter?

I can be really picky with the games I play, at least hand held wise. I'm a pc gamer at heart but a good sit down with pokemon or a mild adventure game is a good way to past the time. I've always had a soft spot for the zelda series so that's why I'm having this delema.

however the 3ds' battery life bothers me and I hate the idea of buying a system for only one game. ( however I have done so in the past)
Mine in 3D lasted around 4 - 6 hours, 2D around 5 - 8 hours. Is that too short for you?

Now when you say 2d do you mean a ds game or a 3ds game with the 3d off?

Is the 3ds currently worth it/ will it be in the near future? Or should I stick to my guns and go with the xl? Mind you either way Id be by a flash cart that would work with either system.
3DS now? Absolute no. Future? Yes. There are many games coming and Nintendo might even come out with another Zelda for it (no confirmation but it's my guess). Most acceptable flash kits (Acekard 2i for example) will work on the 3DS. On the 3DS, DS games will look slightly blurish compared to DS/DSi. DSi XL on the other hand will look slightly pixelated as a result of the larger screen. For your case, it depends. If you find that you just want a console for Zelda, then... I don't know, it's just up to you.

Please forgive any typos, I'm posting this from my mobile.
It's okay. iPhone or Android?

Android x.x I love the phone but form posting is a pain sorry if this is confusing to read.

I think may I wasn't phrasing it right, but yeah that's just it, save for OoT the only thing I would be using the 3ds for would be playing ds games. Hmm.

thats like trying to decide between the gamecube & the wii at launch.
the DSi/DSi Xl time it over, just buy a 3DS, your save money in the long run because you wont be buying a DSi then a 3DS. theres really no reason to get the Dsi anyway now. the 3DS plays, Ds, DSi, & DSiware. & now games are starting to come out for it. i see them stopping DSi or atleast DS support sometime soon & when they do you have to upgrade. what do you think the next call of duty on a nintendo handheld is gonna be on after MW3? there not making a DSi version so its safe to assume that itll be 3DS & i cant wait to see that.

Maybe not, but I use my DSiXL much more at the moment as the screen looks great, the sound is amazing, and DS games actually look good on it. I would recommend him getting an XL now and a 3DS later.

I'm rather inclinded on that, the games that are coming out just arnt doing it for me, I love my classics. If I wanted to play a shoorter id do it on my laptop , just saying because Im really starting to notice people arnt seeing what in try to say.

Huh, I'm gonna jam down to the local gamestop tomorrow and try out both systems. see what I can see, but for the moment I'm leaning towards the xl unless someone can give me a good reason that:

a) doesn't involve games that arnt out yet and b) do with the fact that the ds is going out of support.

Because strictly speaking they are still selling ds lites! Hell I'd go back to it if it wasn't for the xls larger screen.

I prefer my XL because of the screens.Plus the 3DS is not hacked...you think i will buy games? lol

I am waiting for a larger 3DS and hack till I get it.
