Some of you might have run into the same problem: when playing any DS game on the Wii U (even the ones released officially on the eShop), the L and R buttons of the DS are mapped to L and R on the Gamepad. This obviously make sense to some degree, when a game tells me to press L, it makes sense for me to press the button labeled as such.
But the Gamepad's L and R bumpers are awkward and uncomfortable to press, so it makes less sense from a usability standpoint. Ideally, I would want those functions to be mapped to to the ZL and ZR triggers instead, with R being the menu button. Is there a way to do that right now? The only solution I'm seeing on the horizon at the moment is HID to VPAD, which will eventually allow us to change the Gamepad's button mapping *and* be compatible with Loadiine... but that's still a ways off.
Since we're talking Virtual Console games here, it seems pretty likely to me that there's some way to mess with the files and change those settings. You could take this a step further and map the Gamepad's face buttons to the right stick in a game like Metroid Prime Hunters, it would open up a lot of possibilities.
