Some of you might have run into the same problem: when playing any DS game on the Wii U (even the ones released officially on the eShop), the L and R buttons of the DS are mapped to L and R on the Gamepad. This obviously make sense to some degree, when a game tells me to press L, it makes sense for me to press the button labeled as such.

But the Gamepad's L and R bumpers are awkward and uncomfortable to press, so it makes less sense from a usability standpoint. Ideally, I would want those functions to be mapped to to the ZL and ZR triggers instead, with R being the menu button. Is there a way to do that right now? The only solution I'm seeing on the horizon at the moment is HID to VPAD, which will eventually allow us to change the Gamepad's button mapping *and* be compatible with Loadiine... but that's still a ways off.

Since we're talking Virtual Console games here, it seems pretty likely to me that there's some way to mess with the files and change those settings. You could take this a step further and map the Gamepad's face buttons to the right stick in a game like Metroid Prime Hunters, it would open up a lot of possibilities.

That's not what they want. They want to change the configuration of the controls, not the screen.

I'd imagine that there's probably another file similar to the guide posted above that would allow you to modify the controls.

No, it covers layouts AND backgrounds. Did you even read the thread?

Pretty sure it's not possible by modifying the VC itself. Back when finding info about the layouts, I couldn't find anything about button presses in the files. It's probably in the executable .rpx, and without the source code unchangeable.

preety sure on the VC menu you can choose the buttons you want i sure changed alot of buttons on n64 and gba VC doesnt the DS ahs a button change on the VC menu? im preety sure it does.

Ah man, that's pretty unfortunate. Gotta wait for that HID to VPAD update I guess.

I doubt any progress has been made in this, but I thought I'd bump it up and ask anyways.

Mainly because I would like to disable the menu function. Every time I set my gamepad down on the ground, the ZR button is pressed, making it very frustrating to play DS games on it.

you can change the menu button on all VCs menus except the DS ones, just go into the options, altough i dont see why you even care since if your putting the gamepad down what is the issue with it being paused on the VC menu? lol.

How do I use this with Loadiine? Specifically, I would like to remap the Wii U Gamepad's buttons for DS games. I have HID turned on in Loadiine, but it just gives me the default button layout once I boot up the game.
