You'll have to wait quite a while... maybe 1-3 years (probably more) for price drop in economic trouble!
Plus DSi have software updates that keeps on preventing use of flashcard use!

Get a DS lite first!

@Shichibukai
replacement case + (possibly a new mechanical hinge for your ds phat)
when you do this, i recommend Dealextreme.com for supplies+cases.
CODEThings you'll need:
-replacement case of your choice
-NDS Lite Triwig screwdriver
(maybe)
-DS phat hinge

Nintendo will charge you $70+ for that kind of repair. If you are too lazy to actually do anything yourself and don't wanna spend any money, then just buy a new DSPhat from your local game store for cheap.

If you just buy a new case and a new cable (the one between the two halves of the DS) you can repair it... But it's quite difficult if you haven't done something like that.

I have recently replaced my case with one from DealExtreme. It wasn't expensive at all, and my DS Phat looks like new now. The cable that broke for you is the one that's used for the top screen. If you disassemble both the top and bottom part of the DS you can simply replace the cable. Replacing the entire case requires more work, but you probably won't mess anything up to bad.

I really recommend trying this. If you buy a case replacement, a triwing screwdriver and a new input part for the touch screen your DS will feel like new, and it won't cost a whole lot.
