i disassembled my DS to try to fix the hinge(sucessful) but when i put it back together the top screen flashes and then the unit shuts off, i looked at all the connections and it all seems well in place and the ribbon cables are spotless(undamaged) any suggestions?

take it to bits again, blow on all chips/PCBoard (dont spit!), press chips into sockets, maybe electrical tape
round the thin plastic wire coverings (may not see exposed copper with eye)
put it together, kick it, turn it on, hey presto

If the top screen (only) flashes that indicates that the bottom screen is not connected properly or broken.
So check the bottom screen connections (though they shouldn't have been unplugged for a hinge fix)
