I'm thinking of buying another DS, it will be the 3rd time iv'e bought one now. How long can we expect the DS Lite and the new DSi to be out for until Nintendo bring out a new console altogether?

I hope soon, because Sony is making a PSP 2 with a TOUCH SCREEN. So when it will have a touch screen DS will be a complete piece of ****. I mean only thing DS is good for now is the games with touchscreen (thus better gameplay). But PSP 2 will have Good GFx, Good Gameplay AND a Touch screen. So nintendo better start doing something about their crappy DS.

PSP 2 having a touch screen is a rumor that might not even be true.Also I think they'll just add another joystick and l2 and r2 buttons to the PSP2.

Sony aren't making a PSP2, where ever you got your info from is wrong.

Sony is gona make a new handheld sooner or later but not until say 2010 also the Ds will last becuase many people like it .

With the DSi Nintendo has already stated that the GBA will not be a part of a future handheld. If you buy a DS Lite now, you'll have the both GBA and DS libraries at your disposal. Even if the next handheld is retro-compatible, having the ability to play GBA games is always welcome. Buying a DS is a good idea. It has quite a long life still, you won't regret it.

i'm guessin another 3 yrs or so, because of the dsi. then a new handheld will come out which i won't get, because i'll wait for the "lite" version to come out a little later.

I don't see it, the games division shitting money left right and centre and with the PS3/PSP they've shown that they can't really handle promoting two consoles at the same time.

And then there is the hardware capabilities, there is a reason that Nintendo hasn't done a new handheld and probably won't until it has to...the higher the hardware is, the more it costs to make. If there is a PSP2 it'll have to have better graphics that are maybe on par or just slightly less than the 360. The 360 is only just making a profit as it is, he PSP2 I'm guessing will cost more to produce due to its size. And there they can't just make a console just because it has better graphics as it didn't exactly work out for the PSP did it? Ok they could add a touchscreen...that'll add to costs. Lets face it the DS is doing very well not just because of the touchscreen but because of Ninetndo's own games and approach to getting the "causal" crowd in.

I know the PSP is doing a lot better nowadays but I think Sony don't have the heart to make another one.

I see Nintendo are going to get bored with what they've done with the DS range and move onto something else in a year or two.

Good GFx is probably true, not sure on touch screen. But good gameplay? Most of the psp games aren't good, just get bored too quickly, thats why i sold it...

Yeah, I'm gonna go with that, too. I really wasn't expecting Nintendo to wait past five years to present their next-gen DS, but since they're still printing money with the system, there's no reason to move forward yet. They'd just be repeating what Sony have done with the PS3 in a sense by offering customers technology they're not ready for (and I am, of course, speaking in general terms).

Two more years. I say we'll see a first glimpse of the DS2 at E3 2010, and then perhaps see it launch in spring of 2011.

How long a handheld will last depends on how good it is sold. The DS is selling very good until now, so I'm expecting another 3-4 years of it. I think the Era of the DS will be over until 2011 or 2012. I do hope until then we'll have some very good games on it (even if we have now^^).

Sincerly

Better gameplay? The touchscreen has produced mountains of games that are absolute crap...gimmicky trash that only sells because the common consumer is a bleeding idiot. 95% of commercial games that use the touchscreen use it incorrectly. The touchscreen makes games WORSE in general because developers don't know how to use it.

PWNED.

I would say about 2 years. the current DSL sales have yet to slow down. And dont think for a minute that ninty will stop that even to release the DSi stateside.

just like everybody said in here 2 years top, if you could get one for around 60 dollars than buy, because they still a lot of good games coming out, one thing do not I repeat do not waste your money on dsi, the danm thing cost as much as an xbox360, instead save your money for the next generation handheld

Just think back on those old days,

Nintendo Gameboy (Color / Advance):
- Sega -> Game Gear -> Color and beter cpu, descent, but in no way a GB beater
- Atari Lynx -> Powerfull CPU and color, i would say descent, but FAIL
- Neo-Geo Pocket (color) -> fail (pitty of this)
- Bandai Wonderswan (color / swancrystal) -> fail

Super Nintendo / Sega Megadrive:
- Sega Megacd -> Fail
- Atari jaguar -> Fail
- 3DO -> Overpriced, Fail
- Amiga CD32 -> Descent, but +/- 100.000 pcs sold is not enough, Fail
- Philips CD-i -> Big Fail
- FM-Towns (only sold in Japan but failed in the end)
- Neo Geo AES, overpriced and targetted to the richer ppl, i would not say fail, but it didn't at competition to the others.

Playstation:
- Neo Geo CD (CDZ) -> Fail (due to crappy load times and overheating issues)
- Sega Saturn -> Fail
- N64 -> Descent, but Fail

It's not always, more, better powerfull that ownz it all. Historie has proven that.
Sony better lays an ear to the customer to know what we really want in a PSP2.

I hope they make a PSP 2 the emulation possibilities would be amazing.

That article is meaningless by the way "no current plans" is a joke even if it was in development they won't say they are working on it till they are ready to show it off.

Acting like wow that proves it has to be as dumb as heck.

It would be like asking a company about a game that they are keeping under wraps and when they say no current plans you take that to believe it would never come. There is no current plans for Kingdom Hearts 3 but I doubt many people would believe it will never come.

Usually when somebody says "no current plans" it means they aren't working on it.. so it means no actual current plan.
I doubt Sony would be so unprofessional to tell us "lolz, no plans for psp2 lolz" and then they just come out of the closet one day saying "lol here it is, psp2! xD we were joking lolz".. Also they wouldn't be denying if they were actually planning/working on it so... yeah, I think there won't be a psp2 anytime soon (maybe a different handheld console..)
