Hacking DS being picky bitch

I have a problem with my DS Lite and my Cyclo DS Evo. A while ago it started this thing where if I swap the MSD card then it'll take a few attempts for it to register again, most of the time it'd say 'MSD card not inserted' or 'needs formatting' (even when the card had just been formatted). Once the card had registered it would continue to work until it was removed for whatever reason. However, this is no longer the case. Now it will give me that message when the card has not been removed. How can I resolve this issue, preferably explained in terms a five year old could follow because have the technical aptitude of a monkey with a spanner up its arse.

Move the microSD into a slightly different position? Move it around a little to try out the contacts.
